I teach both traditional and digital graphic design; I’m also an illustrator and fine artist, and I am qualified to teach any of these disciplines from introductory to senior level courses. My students include two winners of student Addy Awards. My industry portfolio includes work for Paramount Studios, Bard College, the Jerome Levy Economics Institute, Scholastic, Twin Engines Coffee, novelist Kathryn Loch, and historian Louis Vidaurri.
My design practice grows from my expanding perception that art is creating something, whether it be a digital design or an oil painting or a sculpture that expresses something in, I hope, a universally accessible way. When I was a young BFA, I thought art began and ended with the pen, the pencil and paint; along the way, computers were invented, and have since become one of the most powerful tools available to artists, whether working in sound, light, motion, or the negative space between objects.
I’m no longer convinced that “Fine Art” is a separate category of skills from “Illustration” or “Graphic Design” and I question the divisions in the art community as a whole that place more value on one type of creation than on another.Truthfully, the same fundamental skills are critical to any artist- the ability to create an object that functions properly doesn’t exclude the possibility of beauty of form.
I aim to create a conversation between fine art and art done for hire- neither is less nor more than the other, and marginalizing one approach doesn’t make another approach better or less- but it does diminish art as a whole to place artificial divisions in paramount positions. I hope to show that each art, each artist, is inherently valuable.

Being able to organize your thoughts long enough to create a logo or poster or bookcover. Understanding how important typography really is to design.
Taking any 2D design you create, then turning it into a 3D design and then getting it printed. Being able to hold your design in your hands is a special moment in time.
Much of the future of web design lies with use of mobile devices. Responsive design must enhance the viewer experience. A memorable user interface experience ensures repeat traffic.
Creating a design and turning it into a 3D interactive experience is the future of storytelling and design. Showing the client the product in augmented reality before going to print or production will become the industry standard.
Even in the 21st century, a picture is worth a thousand words; the combination of traditional and digital art is the next iteration of this universal truth.
New Media brings traditional and digital design and art into the new arena of augmented and virtual reality and joins with 3D printing to create a visual and tactile user experience that engages four of the five senses. Current technology allows incorporation of the sense of smell, giving the user an immersive experience.

Mr. Cooper is an excellent instructor and always has a pro tip on the latest software. A Design Guru who is stacked with knowledge from years of working across the creative industry. As an instructor he is always there to help you solve questions about your design process and help bring your vision to life. He teaches his students the importance of being confident in yourself as a creative which has been a big takeaway from studying under him.
I met Cooper when I joined the Art Institute of San Antonio as Dean of the school. The best way to describe him is PASSION! He has PASSION for his students ad their education and Passiin for his work. I am truly amazed at the work and dedication he puts into his students portfolios to get them ready for the real world and keeping his own graphic design company and going to school and keep producing amazing artwork for his gallery shows as well.
I learned everything I know from Cooper, he gave me my start in the graphic design industry. He teaches the real world into the classroom so you can be ready for the real world when you graduate. This man keeps expanding his graphic and new media skills, amazing what he is producing, while still in school for his 2nd MFA.
I met Cooper years ago and he trained me in the ways of graphic design and all about printing. This man keeps amazing me on the work he can design and execute. Cooper teaching skills or style is like no other he knows how to connect with his students and get the best out of them.
